The trip over..
10.01.2008
It all started with my late flight to Heathrow.
After a cup of tea at Costa Coffee ( open 24/7) i found to my relief two norwegians and a chinese girl all having flights earlie the next morning.
Eirik was coming back from China, Morten was on his way to Melbourne and Xiting was on her way back to Toronto where she is a student.
We all camped on the hard floor and stayed up the whole night so that we wouldnt miss are plane onward.
Around 6 in the morning Eirik was the first to depart and then the rest of us had to say our goodbye´s.
The flight over to Miami was ok. It was a Boeing 777, seat numer 21 j if im not mistaken and full from first class to coach !
Flying inn over Miami was pretty cool.. it was nearly like when american astranouts have re-entered and are on finals!
Customs took a LONG time! ( No air condition)
Seeing a customs officer with a gun on his hip was a reminder of how serious border control is!
After some hours and a gate change i found myself in a sportsbar sipping a budweiser.
Soon after a group of american marine biologists joined me and we had a couple of drinks before they left for Peru and i had yet another gate change back at the main building.
Finally at the right gate, we were delayed.
I started to talk to an american who had lived in Norway sometime ago in a ski cabin. He would ski down the hill, pick up some food for a week or two and then climb back up again! Small world!
Got on the plane and was so tired that i fell asleep before we´d even taken off and didnt wake up untill 20 min before landing with yet another set of forms i had to fill out!
I took a minibus with a group of four americans down to the hostel.
Sadly they didnt get in even though they had a reservation, so we said bye and i thought id never see them again until today when i was in the reciepton area!
Well, today i´ve met up with a lady from Otec Viajes and another norwegian called Anja also a volenteer.
We went to the Grand Hotel and went through all the arrangements. Afterwards we came back to the roof terrasse and have since just been chilling out before we leave for our homestay families 2morrow.
Had pancakes for breakfast, a burger for lunch and dinner is going to be local somewhere in town.
All in all, a very social trip, lets hope the rest is just as social!
Hasta luego amigos!
